Dorcas Sewing Ministry

At Joppa there was a certain disciple named Tabitha, which is translated Dorcas. This woman was full of good works and charitable deeds which she did. But it happened in those days that she became sick and died. When they had washed her, they laid her in an upper room. And since Lydda was near Joppa, and the disciples had heard Peter was there, they sent two men to him, imploring him not to delay in coming to them. When he had come, they grought him to the upper room. And all the widows stood by him weeping, showing the tunics and garments which Dorcas had made while she was with them. But Peter put them all out, and knelt down and prayed. And turning to the body he said, “Tabitha, arise.” And she opened her eyes, and when she saw Peter she sat up. Acts 9:30-36

This is an example for all of us to do good works as we have the opportunity. Our group meets on the third Tuesday of the month at 6:30 during the months of March through October, sewing clothes for children. We have sent clothes to Haiti and to Africa, and we want to help children wherever there is a need. If you have not been a part of this ministry we encourage you to start helping us out. You can’t sew? No problem. We need people who can iron, lay out patterns, cut fabric and just plain lift each other up by being there.
